A Discussion on Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Grain-Free Diets

dilatedcardiomyopathy.jpg

Dr. Justin Shmalberg is a veterinarian at Small Animal Hospital at the University of Florida. His mission is an integrative approach to animal care—combining the latest technologies, natural approaches, and fundamental nutrition to prevent and treat disease in pets.

In his blog post, Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Grain-Free Diets: Thoughts on the FDA Update, Dr. Shmalberg discusses the current suggestion that certain types of pet foods may be causing fatal heart disease. He takes a multi-aspect approach to his own personal experiences and opinions as an integrative veterinarian.

In discussing what DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) is, citing studies, and sharing how he advises his own pet parent clients, Dr. Shmalberg presents a fundamental starting conversation on a topic in which definitive answers are still up in the air. Be sure to read the comments section of his article for more excellent information.

In light of this, remember we will have a LOT of vendors at our big summer event—Customer Appreciation Day! (See details below!) Visit with them, take home some free samples, learn about their companies and maybe try something new while enjoying the big one day savings!

Getting closer…just 10 days until…

If you haven’t heard yet, our 5th Annual Customer Appreciation Day/Summer Fun Event is on July 20th from 10am-3pm!

You can’t miss it if you drive by our Mukwonago location …with the huge Pier Pups doc diving pool taking center stage, all the vendor tents, wading pool, live music, and more.

We sure hope you can swing by with your family (furry and all!) to say hello, enjoy a summer day surrounded by good people, excellent sales on your favorite pet products and pet lovin’ gifts, and know that you are appreciated by all of us at End of the Leash!

Gotta water dog?

You will love our new Wigzi Gel Leashes (one and two dogs), Collars and Harnesses. They are waterproof, stink-proof, and reflective! Choose from blue, green, pink and orange.

Check out the dual doggie leash:

If your leash, collar or harness gets dirty or wet simply hand wash with soap and water, wipe it clean and you're set. Each product has a highly reflective strip for maximum visibility. There's an additional d-ring on the leashes for waste bags included near the super-comfy gel handle.

(In fact, these products would be great to try out in our wading pool at the Summer Fun Event!!)

PLEASE NOTE: End of the Leash does NOT carry retractable leashes.

Spangle has spent more of his life then not living in a shelter. Prior to that, when he was very young, we think he lived outside with his mother and siblings. We are looking for a patient, nurturing home to show this guy what home living is like! Spangle is a five month old, Dalmatian mix puppy. He gets along well with other dogs of various sizes, but would prefer a home without cats. This handsome fella is loving and curious, although a bit on the shyer side. Because of his sensitive nature, his new family members would all need to be 13 and older. Are you ready to bring home Spangle, the Star of a Pup? Come to HAWS and meet him!
