Let's Chew!

Does your dog chew things he’s not supposed to? What about have some tartar on his teeth? Or maybe he just seems listless or bored?

Dr. Karen Becker says dogs use their mouths to explore their world. Chewing is part of this and is a very natural part of dogs being dogs! That’s why it’s very important for us, as their human guardians, to provide them healthy and safe opportunities to chew, chew, chew.

Check out this great little article over at healthypets.mercola.com to learn 5 Good Reasons Why Your Dog Needs to Chew—why it benefits him, and how to deal with destructive chewing in just a few easy ways.

How to pet your cat—THINK LIKE A CAT!

A scritch under the chin or a rub of the paw beans might send one kitty into a purring bliss…while with another you may find the claws and hissing as your reward!

If you observe cats interacting with one another, you will find they will lick one other where most of their scent glands are; most of which are located on their head and face. A UK study showed that these areas are, in fact, where most kitties enjoy being touched by their humans. But there are also areas that may be off-limits for many cats as well.

If you are new to being a cat parent, or have a cat who doesn’t appreciate your affection through touch, you may benefit from reading When Petting Your Kitty, Think Like a Cat. Dr. Karen Becker has gathered up a tidy chat on how to best physically interact with your cat, and why!

HAWS PET OF THE WEEK

To learn more about how to adopt through HAWS, please visit their adoption page.  You may also give them a call at 262.542.8851.

Chance is a darling, ten year-old pit bull who is looking for a comfortable place to spend his golden years. He has arthritis and moves slowly, however he still enjoys going out for walks and seeing the world. Chance would prefer a family with children his age or older. Due to his discomfort he isn't always thrilled with other dogs, but is willing to meet them and see. In our experience he is respectful of cats. If you like slow walks and long cuddle sessions, stop at HAWS and Take Chance Home For the Win!
