Midnight Magic is now upon us—only a few days away!

It’s hard to believe that 8 years ago around this time, we were remodeling our previous retail space in downtown Mukwonago. Since then, we’ve grown and made a home in our awesome Bay View Road store and have created so many memories!!

This will be our 14th Mukwonago Midnight Magic since we opened in 2005 and we are just as excited as ever to offer you—our AMAZING customers and friends—more great deals, live entertainment, giveaways, and vendors that will be here to celebrate our community with us.

This is Jack, the Russian Tortoise. He was surrendered to HAWS this summer, in rough shape. After several months recuperating in foster care, he's ready for adoption!

This gentle reptile is roughly the size of a soft ball. His species can grow to be eight to ten inches long and live until 40 years-old. He is a vegetarian who mostly dines on dark leafy greens (even dandelion leaves)! He likes a dry enclosure with special lights, somewhere to dig and appreciates a weekly soak. When the weather is warm he likes to be outdoors. However, as previously stated, he likes to dig. So, outside he needs to be watched or have a reinforced area.

This week's Pet of the Week is Ali! She is a beautiful four year-old pit bull. This girl has been at HAWS since July, patiently waiting for the right adopters. Ali is very smart, she loves to learn and knows many cues. She is a cuddle bug with velvety-soft fur. Ali wants to hog all of your love and praise though, so she's looking to be an only pet. Let's get this girl home for the holidays!

This week's Pet of the Week is Spikey! He is a common Bearded Dragon. He is seven years old and about 14 inches long and a beautiful creature. He likes dogs and cats and really enjoys being carried around by his people. His previous owners said he will kiss your cheek or neck while riding on your shoulder. He is a really nice guy who enjoys being handled. Stop in and see if Spikey the Friendly Dragon is the right pet for you.

Albert is a domestic short hair tabby with white. He is twelve years young and currently resides in our small cat colony room. That means that Albert can live in harmony with other mellow cats.

He likes meeting people and once he's done so is very affectionate. This former stray kitty enjoys sunning himself and surveying his kingdom from a comfy perch. He is looking to continue his life of leisure in a peaceful home.

Does this sound familiar? “I want to switch my cat over to a raw meat diet, but, in the meantime I'm still feeding her dry food. I notice she throws it up pretty often, almost always soon after eating it. What is it about dry food that makes cats throw it up? The barf looks almost the same as when it went in!”

Red is a 4 year old Coonhound. He is a tall and active boy that loves searching for lost food in low and high places. He is a not a fan of sharing the attention of his people so he would do best being the only pet in the house. He is an active boy that would love to be a part of an energetic household.

This Sunday--Alaskan Malamute Weight Pull

The Alaskan Malamute Club of Wisconsin will be at End of the Leash Mukwonago this Sunday, October 21st from 9:30am-3pm for the yearly Weight Pull!

Weigh-ins are from 9:30-10:30am. Pulling starts at 11am.

Bring your lawn chair and watch these hard working dogs doing what they love!

A little more about the AMCW:
The Alaskan Malamute Club of Wisconsin, Inc. was started in 1969 by a group of people interested in the promotion of the true image of the Alaskan Malamute. It is felt that the breed can be promoted and advanced through sharing of knowledge between club members. The AMCW holds many events throughout the year including weight pulls, dog shows, backpacking, sledding, and public education events. You need not own an Alaskan Malamute to participate in the club events!

Scarlett and Ruby are a pair of 5 month old rabbits available for adoption. They love to cuddle with one another and run around an open room. Our small animal nook is overflowing so if you are looking for a small animal friend now is the time to come look!

For 6 seasons on Animal Planet, Shorty took his mission to television and became a public figure on the hit show Pit Boss where he was able to bring his cause and fight for the Pit Bull breed not only across the nation, but to the world.

Now Shorty is a man on a mission: Shorty’s Freedom Trip 2018, where he journeys across the United States of America in his classic 1937 Chevy Master, speaking his mind on a few important topics.

Shorty has been on tour for the past 8 years promoting breed awareness, fighting BSL (Breed Specific Legislation), fighting for animal rights, spay and neuter clinics, promoting his book Four Feet Tall and Rising, motivational and keynote speaking, and promoting his cigar line. His tour has already brought him to almost every state in the USA, all over Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru and Argentina.

Thanks to our friends at Winston's Wishes, he will be here in our Mukwonago store on October 12th, 2018, from 4-6pm!

Hannah is a 4 year old Labrador Retriever mix. HAWS is recommending children 10 and older because she doesn't like to share toys. Hannah warms up slowly but her friendship is worth the wait! She is cautious but also curious.

Now Shorty is a man on a mission: Shorty’s Freedom Trip 2018, where he journeys across the United States of America in his classic 1937 Chevy Master, speaking his mind on a few important topics.

Giving Corn Cobs to Your Dogs--Just Don't Do It!

Ah, ears of sweet corn. Those juicy, crunchy, buttery, salty treats of summer! And of course, who doesn't want to share the bliss with their favorite pooch? 

Well, go ahead and indulge Fido with some nibbles of kernels if you choose, but toss the cob! Be sure to secure the spent cobs FAR and away, in a bag, in the trash bin, in the garage, secure from any sneaky doggie snoops. 

If you suspect your dog has gotten into the trash and eaten cobs (or any other food/foreign object), call your veterinarian immediately. Some symptoms you may notice are:

• vomiting or dry heaves
• diarrhea (or straining)
• not eating
• painful abdomen
• lethargy

A dog's body cannot break down the cobs and there's a good chance they will get lodged in the intestines causing a possibly fatal obstruction.  Thankfully, Dozer was a lucky boy and recovered.  Avoid a possible trip to the emergency vet, or even worse--just say no to giving your dog (or cat!) corn on the cob!

New Unique Treats by Scout & Zoe's

One of Scout & Zoe's treat lines is part of a project called Scout & Zoe's Fish on a Mission(R).  Their Carp Planks and Carp Spears (for cats, too!) treats are included in this project. They also have other carp treats including Carp Bubblers, Carp Eye Candy, and Carp Puffers. As shared by PetPr:

Juan, Ponch, and Cisco are 3 month old rats. They are like the three musketeers and go everywhere together including their adoptive home. They will run towards you for affection and love to explore. Cisco would not get out of bed for the photo! :)
