Winston’s Wishes: OUR MISSION

Starting in 2014, we worked with local non-profits for three years to raise much needed funds & awareness for local dogs in need. We would constantly have advocates and dog owners reach out to us regarding dogs needing extra assistance. Most dogs were dogs that were not thriving in the shelter environment, therefore shutting down. We began fundraising in 2017 as a 501(c)(3) non profit to build our Rescue Sanctuary so we could assist our local homeless pups that may need a little extra care. Our plan has become to focus on quality. We have now secured a 5 acre location in Southern Wisconsin that provides for beautiful, large, fenced in areas. We will create four “Doggie Condos”, sound proof, home-like areas, to start with. We will be providing a relief for a few dogs at a time with the hopes that they will be able to show their true colors in the country life and find a forever home. We will also be creating a foster-based program once we are able to expand.

Let’s talk allogrooming

“What in the world is allogrooming??”, you say!? It’s the term scientists use to describe grooming behaviors between many species of animals—here we are talking about domesticated cats!

At one time or another, we’ve witnessed one cat grooming another. Our first instinct is to assume it is a sign of affection between the cats, or maybe even a motherly interaction. But research shows that it’s much more than that.

Our favorite little feline friends have a complex behavioral system, and this article on Catster talks more in depth about what allogrooming is and how you can better understand your cats when observing this behavior.

Lady is an affectionate three-year-old mixed breed dog. She is a quick learner who already knows the "sit" and "down" cues. Her comical and energetic demeanor will keep you on your toes. Lady gets along with dogs but should not go to a home with cats. She is a large dog (about 55 pounds) who would enjoy an active lifestyle. If you are looking for a fantastic comical companion, stop at HAWS and say, “Hey Lady!”
